Cordstrap Receives AAR Approval for Square Tube shipments on Rail Cars
Cordstrap USA takes another step forward in North America with the latest non-metallic lashing approval for securing square tubes on Open Top Rail cars. Square tube is used is many applications such as Pillars, Posts, Roof Joists, fencing and railing.
In December 2021, the AAR Open Top Loading Rules Committee released Figures 154-A and 154-B allowing Cordlash200 and Cordlash750 to be used to secure square tubing on bulkhead flat cars. Up until this point, only metal banding was approved for use – a solution that comes with significant risk to cargo and to the employees loading and unloading it. Find out more about the dangers of steel banding here.
This new approval not only benefits shippers with a safer way to secure loads, it also requires less lumber when loading the car.
We’re committed to protecting cargo across our rail network, ensuring our customers’ freight is secure, compliant and avoids unnecessary risk, delays and rejection.
We’re proud of our close relationship with the AAR, we now hold two Associate Member seats on AAR Committees. Scott Loudon, our Direct of Rail is an AAR Associate Member on the Open Top Loading Rules Committee and Brett Calamari was recently elected to the Damage Prevention Committee by the AAR’s Advisory Board in Washington DC. Brett’s appointment will allow Cordstrap to further support what innovations are needed to help solve issues occurring in closed car loading.
